Reader! Hello. I'm writing to you from Noosa this weekend (for my international friends, that's a beach town in Australia). We are here with all our clan, to celebrate my parent's 50th wedding anniversary. What an achievement hey, 50 years?!! Our family is a fairly rambunctious bunch, so it's been loud, colourful (in all the ways you can understand that word), and full of laughter. "What do you think it would be like to have been married for 50 years?" "What's been the secret to their marriage?" (or the "trick", as my 10 niece phrased it). Their thoughts have ranged from the hilarious, "They've been alive for 10,000 years, so 50 years isn't much," to the unknowingly poignant, "neither of them has died" (7yo niece), and the insightful, "They help each other, and they trust each other" (10yo niece). It's been fun and interesting to talk about these things, as well as extremely precious for us adults as we share this milestone with our parents and have extended family time together. On a totally different note, this is a *wild* podcast series about love, deception and catfishing. In six episodes, your mind will be blown. If relaxing to true crime is your jam, give this a whirl. Eat Australian Lumberjack Cake You've heard of Pavlova, the quintessential Australian dessert - but have you heard of the Lumberjack cake? This is my husband's favourite, so I make it for his birthday every year - which happened to be just last week. I instantly knew this was one to share with you. It's super simple (you'll probably have all the ingredients you need in your cupboard already) and super delish - enjoy! Sing along to the Skipping Girl Playlist Oh, you beautiful souls, we've got 90 minutes of fun tunes to kick off the Skipping Girl playlist to help you bob along throughout the week! Keep commenting here or replying to this email with your favourite songs, and I'll keep updating it! Ok, that's it for this week! If you want to share this issue of The Sunday Five via text, social media, or email (then please do!) Just copy and paste this link: https://skipping-girl.ck.page/posts/the-sunday-five-aug4 Have a great week Reader Louisa P.s. I have written this in between conversations, swims and glasses of aperol so please forgive me any typos! |

Reader! Hello. Happy Monday (or, you know, let’s pretend this landed in your inbox on Sunday night - collective agreement, yeah?!). We are heading off on our trip in two days—yikes (&yipee!)! We are doing one-bag travel, and even though I’d prepped all the clothes we’d need, packing still somehow turned into a full-scale wardrobe overhaul for my teenage boys! So that's what I was doing yesterday, instead of writing to you Reader. Let sigh. Again. So, this week, talk to your kids about...So...
Reader! Hello. So last week, I wrote about how I hadn't nailed it with the intentional conversations with my kids. I hit send on that email, closed my laptop and said goodnight to one of my kids.... who promptly burst into tears, threw their arms around me, and sobbed. It is *so hard* to be a teenager. Life is incredibly confusing and overwhelming, and our kids desperately need us. In recent times, a few people have said to me that their sons aren't interested in talking to them. I am not...
Reader! Hello. When I came up with the five things for this newsletter, life looked a bit different for me. Since then, it's become a little...intense, and it's made me acutely aware that having solid conversations with your kids requires three things: time, emotional energy and intention. This week, I've had the intention and the time but not the emotional bandwidth to act. I've felt grateful for the in-built accountability of writing this email that keeps me focused on my priorities and...
